People, Places and Things

I had the displeasure of commuting into my downtown Dallas office today, always a fun event when you consider Dallas Metroplex traffic. I had not even left my community when things got fun. A small bit of background, when I commute to my office I drive a small car, not really a “clunker” but a small low cost car that is easy on gas, in Dallas that is a bad thing. People who drive SUVs feel it is their god given right to treat small cars like they are not even there, which is what happen, we pulled up to a four-way stop, three lanes each side two through and one turn lane. The mammoth SUV and I pull to the stop together, side by side on the two through lanes. Considering that the lane ahead of me was full and backed up so I moved forward slowly, the SUV races into off the line, and into my lane (almost hitting me, not that they really care) and leaves me sitting in literally in the middle of the four-way stop. One of the things both my wife and I have seen over the last 10 years is the overall downturn in respect for others and an increase in people’s own valuation of their self importance. People now a days feel they are the single most important being in the know universe ( this is NOT true of everyone, there are still many people who are willing to help others with no interest in receiving any type of reward or compensation). I am not sure what drives this feeling or what its overall impact will be over the next few years, we will have to wait and see. To finish my story, there is no reason that person needed to cut me (or anyone) off just becuase they felt they were more important them I was or their need to get to “X” was greater. In closing I must say I am not mad or upset or even really bothered by it, just needed to vent about selfworth and self importance. Now, I am using my new Dell to write this on the bus, so I thought it would be fun to look at the wireless APs down 190 and I-35. And on the 20 min trip on the bus I found a total of 278 APs almost half were not secure. Come on folks let’s get the act together and get them set up right!
